Name : Fossil Bird Wing Feather Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Kemmerer, Wyoming Size: Feather is 1.6 inches long! Is a very uncommon vertebrate fossil. This is a very fine fossil feather from the Eocene Fish Layers of Wyoming. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record – even individual feathers are highly uncommon, especially ones this large! This fossil feather is very easily seen and has very nice detail preserved. The distinct fossil has excellent natural color and contrast and is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very impressive fossil feather from the Green River Formation.

Name: Lepidostrobus Cone and Bark. Size: Cone itself is 4.3 inches long! This is a fabulous plate of Coal Age fossils from Iowa. On the left side of the plate is a very detailed impression of bark from the Lepidodendron tree. Lepidodendron trees were very important in the formation of coal in the mid-continent area. The detailed pattern of the bark is very distinct. Each “diamond” represents the point of attachment of a fallen leaf. Also, there is an excellent example of Lepidostrobus, a cone from the Lepidodendron tree, on the slab. Lepidostrobus cones are quite rare in the fossil record. The Lepidostrobus cone consisted of a central stalk crowded with spirally arranged bracts, the upper surface of each bearing a single spore case. The cone has great form and exhibits very fine detail. The fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are well showcased on the large, natural plate of matrix. This is a very nice example of a fossilized dinosaur bone. It is a distinct Triceratops Femur Bone from the Cretaceous of Montana. This distinct specimen was acquired in the 1990’s directly from the digger. The large bone is the very end part of the femur (“knob”). The bone detail is very nice and smooth, and the back side shows the preservation of the inside of the bone (“marrow”). This piece is fully mineralized and turned to stone – it is extremely heavy! This is a very large, very displayable piece of a Triceratops femur, a very cool fossil dinosaur bone. Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) and Snout Beetle. Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Bonanza, Utah Size: Leaf is over 6 inches tall! This is a fabulous example of a very large fossil leaf. It is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, with the very tip of one lobe being bug-eaten! The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The distinct fossil is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale that also has a different leaf and a large textbook Snout Beetle preserved a rare association! This is a very collectible example of a huge Sycamore leaf and Beetle from the Green River Formation.
