Very RARE, early PAIR, 1930s, large authentic palmetto SEMINOLE Indian dolls
Here are a PAIR of exceptionally rare, matching early, (11″ tall male and 10″ female), “Seminole Indian” doll s, circa 1930s, from the Everglades area in south Florida. The male member of the tribe wears his original, very c o l o r f u l , “big shirt” with matching cotton scarf with orange bead tie around his neck and black cloth headdress representing his hair. His body is stuffed with palmetto husk and his wooden legs are covered with the same material although he has lost one foot (which should not be difficult to add). His facial features include an applied nose and eyes which are stitched with thread. His wonderfully bright and clean, traditional patchwork shirt is actually horizontally stitched with many individual pieces joined together in bands to form the intricate patterns (as can be seen on the underside in our attached photos). Included with him is his female mate also w earing her traditional, very c o l o r f u l cotton, two-piece costume and original white bead necklace with her hair wrapped in a black cloth snood. Her cylindrical body is made of cypress bark and palmetto fiber husk and her facial features are stitched with thread including an applied nose & one eyebrow. As described on page 9, “Indian Dolls”-Schiffer her black fabric head covering is not a hat but actually represents the woven hairstyles worn by the tribal women. These wonderful dolls both have their. Earlier, softer printed clothing. And are probably from the Brighton Reservation (Miccosukee-Seminole) and are in very good condition, considering their age, with wonderfully preserved features as shown. They have slight fading, no stains, no tears, little wear at edge of her skirt and no repairs or odors as they are from a smoke free home. Other similar Seminole Indian dolls are NOT included (shown in last photos) and separately listed. Nearly all of our items are. Signs of wear due to usage and previous storage. Our very best to describe and photograph them for you and do not repair, restring, repaint or enhance them in any way as most collectors prefer to find them in their original state. Let us know if we can help you with anything else. We have more antique and vintage dolls, dollhouse furniture and antique dollhouse dolls available, each listed separately. If there is a problem with your item, please let us know prior to leaving feedback and we will do our best to make sure you are satisfied. Very RARE Early Vintage Modern Figural Abstract Painting, Clark Walding 1975
This is an ethereal and beautiful Very RARE Early Vintage Modern Figural Abstract Painting, Oil, Gouache and Watercolor on paper, by renowned California Postmodernist Clark Walding b. This work depicts a figural abstraction of several shadowy figures in various poses and is rendered in an otherworldly and expressive manner. This piece is special due to the fact that this artist rarely includes the human form in his work, and the fact that it is from so early in his career. The earliest publicly known and exhibited artworks by Walding date to the 1980’s. This work includes an interesting poem by the artist and is signed and dated: C. Walding 1975 at the center right edge of the image. Approximately 21 1/4 x 32 3/4 inches including frame. Actual visible artwork is approximately 20 x 31 1/2 inches. Very good condition, with a few small unnoticeable creases to the lower center edge please see photos. In current times, Clark Walding is a dynamic and highly celebrated artist in New Mexico, and his paintings would set you back many thousands of dollars from the galleries who represent him. Acquired from the contents of an old and long closed modern art gallery in Los Angeles, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks! CHARLOTTE JACKSON FINE ART presents CLARK WALDING: Evanescence. Charlotte Jackson Fine Art is proud to present an exhibition of new works, Evanescence, by Clark Walding, running from May 13 through June 13. An Opening Reception with the artist will be held on Friday, May 13 from 5-7 p. The gallery is located in the Railyard Arts District at 554 South Guadalupe Street. Clark Walding’s paintings glow. The aching, haunting, mystic blues that he achieves seem to pierce a clean path through the retinal nerve, project like a luminous, Buddhist “Blue Sky Mind” onto the back wall of the skull and then melt down the brain stem to finally collect and pool somewhere behind the sternum. Look, for instance, at the 50 x 40 alkyd, oil, and wax piece, breathe: its deep mineral aquamarine lit by yellow, coursing with undercurrents of green, dappled with bits of icy cyan, and marked by a mysterious dark blue-black form which bleeds a bit of red. Can you feel it? That ice-edged ache, so alive within the painting, slowly takes up residence in the body as you look. As you sink into these paintings-they, in turn, sink into you. It doesn’t take long for the viewer to see that the works included in Evanescence are palimpsests, a chronicle written in color and texture that adds more than just depth, but history. This matches with Walding’s process-not only does he work using a painstaking process of applying paint, removing it, reapplying, removing, on and on, layer by layer-but these paintings are often created over the course of multiple years. What is not there, what has vanished or been erased, somehow becomes in the final viewing, almost as important as what remains. Walding’s act of using the edge of a painting knife to draw into multiple layers of paint, making lines and shapes that reveal contrasts and striking juxtapositions of color, confirms for us something we instinctively know-that there is “more going on here” than can be gleaned from a quick glance. Perhaps it is partly that persistence of absence in these pieces that contributes to the sense of mystery and loss that seems to haunt them. Evanescence is more than just the name of the series-it quite aptly hints at the deeper resonance these pieces emit. While in modern advertising language evanescence may be used to talk about bubbly drinks (from its tangential connection to vapor)-at its core, the noun is about the process of gradually disappearing: to vanish, to disappear, to be forgotten. Add to this the understanding that Walding was quite directly inspired in these works by images of melting Antarctic ice and the picture begins to clear. This isn’t to say that these are paintings of ice. A piece like evanescent or breach with their pale blues frosted by white, edged by pale algae-bloom green, or lined sharply by reds or oranges is not depiction but gesture-they feel more like memory and strike deeper. They owe at least as much to the delicate and mysterious paintings of 13th-century Chan Buddhist monk, Muqi Fachang as they do to drone images of glaciers. Ultimately, what strikes the viewer so acutely, is that the works of Evanescence are beautiful. This isn’t the beauty of advertisements or easy expectations but of vastness, of awe in its oldest sense (a reverence mixed with fear). It is the feeling that comes with acknowledging the transience of life, of things, of the planet itself. This kind of beauty reminds us that life is fragile and staggeringly complex. These paintings are beautiful because of the way that that blue pool of reflected light polling under the breastbone tickles and troubles us. The paintings of Evanescence have a gravity that supports, allowing us to look, see, and to remember. For Clark Walding b. 1945, California color is not an end result, but the record of a history rising up through layers to reveal itself, finally, just below the surface of the canvas. Walding layers oil paint, wax, and alkyd; each layer varies – some nearly transparent while others are nearly opaque. Please checking over the next few weeks as there will be regular additions. I started with some of the larger Christmas molds since we are so close to Christmas. EARLY PIG/BOAR CHOCOLATE MOULD. This very early tin mould was used in a chocolate shop for molding 3-dimensional pieces of chocolate in the shape of a pig/boar. The subject is one of the more unusual ones and the size is stupendous. It is a nice old mold with a flange that curves to follow the lines of the design. It has a mark, but it is worn and very hard to see. It is the flange of a mold from Sommet of Paris. The mold is #2221. It is a nice unusually large mold, probably used to mold a stunning display piece. It measures 4-2/4″ tall x 10-3/4″ wide. It has a clip that is a frame covering the top and ends of the mold. There are two humps allowing the frame to stand for pouring and then also stands when draining. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Kitchen & Home\Baking Accs. & Cake Decorating\Sugarcraft & Chocolate Molds”. The seller is “brokum” and is located in this country: US. Early Emma Bridgewater QUAIL & STRAWBERRY Spongeware Large Soup Tureen VERY RARE
Rare Early Emma Bridgewater Spongeware Large Soup Tureen. Displayed only, never used! Read full description for condition, very minor flaws. This soup tureen stands approximately 9 1/2 tall to the top lid finial, bowl itself is nearly 6 tall to the top rim without the lid, bowl measures approx. 9 across the top rim, and measures 11 1/2 across the handles. At the outer diameter. Hand-painted/hand-sponged with a pattern of brown quails and dark raspberry pink strawberries with green leaves over a creamy earthenware background. Pattern repeats in rows all around tureen and lid, and row of strawberries lines the inner rim of the bowl and bottom foot. Lid has a spoon slot. This amazing piece is in unused condition, it has only ever been displayed. Although it is in nearly new condition, there are a couple of extremely minor issues. There is a very tiny glaze chip on one handle with a couple of small hairline cracks in the glaze stemming from it (see last photo). There are also a few scratches in the glaze from years of display and storage. None of these are major issues and do not take away from the display quality of this piece. Original store price tag attached at the bottom. Of course there are also a few misplaced paint marks typical on these hand painted pieces, but nothing major. There is a small slightly higher spot of pottery on the inside of the bowl (second to last photo). Both of these issues occurred during manufacturing and barely noticeable at all. A wonderful piece and perfect addition to your collection! PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING.
