Extinctions- Large Macginitiea Sycamore Leaf Fossil With Snout Beetle- Very Rare
Macginitiea wyomingensis (Sycamore Leaf) and Snout Beetle. Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Bonanza, Utah Size: Leaf is over 6 inches tall! This is a fabulous example of a very large fossil leaf. It is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Utah. All five lobes of the leaf are easily seen, with the very tip of one lobe being bug-eaten! The venation of the leaf is quite distinct, and a long petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The distinct fossil is well showcased on the large, natural plate of shale that also has a different leaf and a large textbook Snout Beetle preserved a rare association! This is a very collectible example of a huge Sycamore leaf and Beetle from the Green River Formation.
