A VERY rare SHELLEY QUEEN ANNE trio a large fruit with BLUE PANELS
If you are lucky enough to own the book ” The Shelley Style – a Collectors Guide” by Susan Hill and you turn to page thirty three then you will see this gorgeous trio illustrated. It’s on the bottom row – centre left. This was one of the earlier patterns applied to the unique Queen Anne shape and makes full use of the eight panels. The entry in the Shelley pattern book reads as follows. October 1927 Large fruit with tendrils around and trailing down. Print in black enamelled in yellow , blue and coral. Ground colour added to panels. And that’s exactly what you get! The cup has no actual damage – no chips or cracks – but does have some fine all over micro crazing which means it doesn’t “ping”. The black edging is almost 100% intact The fine detail on the handle is unblemished. The solid blue panels have only a VERY FEW very tiny specks of white showing through. The saucer almost “pings” but again has some fine crazing like the cup and a couple of little faint stress lines around the central area. These don’t run anywhere near the edge and are a very common issue with this shape. There are no chips or cracks. The black edging is 100% intact. The blue ground colour is almost 100% intact apart from a couple of VERY SMALL areas where it has rubbed slightly. The plate sounds quite bright. It has no chips or cracks but does have some very fine. The black edging is almsot100% intact and the blue ground colour is in excellent condition with only a few TINY flecks of white showing through. The cup is around 6.5cm high and is about 8cm in diameter at the rim. The saucer measures around 13cm “square” and the plate around 16cm. All three items have a Shelley England back stamp on them as well as a registered number 723404 which relates to the Queen Anne shape. There is a pattern number 11591/8 on all three. This is was first entered in the pattern books in 1927 so the trio probably dates from around that time. The /8 refers to the Turkish Blue ground colour on the panels. Would not be happy to pack this very precious item with anything else. It will be sent by the appropriate postal method to insure it against loss and damage.
