Very Nice Rare Large German Quail Steinadler Hunter Deer Head Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an outstanding find of a very rare, handcarved, working, hunter style, quail cuckoo clock that was created in the Black Forest of Schonach, “Germany” about 75 years ago by “Steinadler, ” one of the finer clockmakers in this historic region! The clock is simply astonishing and one of the finest Ive ever seen. Frankly, were it not for the cause listed below, this exquisite clock would remain in our home; no doubt about it. The clock is carved of cured and aged Linden wood that is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The case is adorned with nine, large, hand carved wooden oak leaves on the front that are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy. Another oak leaf is found on the wooden pendulum and there is a large carved wooden game bag at the base of the case, below the dial and all are finished in a blended, deep walnut finish; very nice! There is a large, nicely carved wooden rabbit to the right of the dial and an equally impressive carved wooden game bird affixed to the left side. The dial has a black backdrop and features large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching hands to point out the time. There is a wooden, round mountain horn encircling the dial complete with a wooden mouthpiece and wood horn end. The top is a separate carving and features a large wooden deer head complete with antlers and two wooden shotguns mounted under it in a criss-cross manner. The clock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes to allow access to the weight driven mechanical movement inside the case bearing the Steinadler name and “Germany” too. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, quail call, and cuckoo activity. All three of the wooden bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look good as well; sound good too! This clock makes extraordinary sounds. At the quarter hour mark, the small wooden door above the dial on the right opens and a colorful red bird with flapping wings stands in the doorway. He gives off three quail sounds in tandem before retreating back inside the case; six sounds at the half hour; nine at the three-quarter hour, and twelve full quail sounds at the top of each hour. At the top of the hour and once the quail bird is safely back inside the case, the door to the left above the dial opens and a colorful blue bird with flapping wings stands in the doorway. The bird correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before retreating to the safe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! Each of the birds close the doors after making their rounds; fascinating and unlike anything Ive ever seen in a cuckoo clock! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, chimes correctly, cuckoos as it should, and makes a stunning quail round. It is an old clock and we don’t know the service history though it appears the movement has had regular? Maintenance over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always recommend to our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a carved wooden oak leaf pendulum, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and can’t find any damage or missing pieces. It’s an impressive old clock and absolutely breathtaking on display. It’s a large clock too measuring about 21″ high (not counting the weights or pendulum), 11 ½ deep, and about 14 1/2″ across the top. This clock is in a league all its own. Its one of the most stunning clocks you could ever find and a magnificent, nostalgic look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship. It will certainly turn a few heads when displayed in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very rare, beautifully carved cuckoo clock with a real history behind it. VERY RARE 1962 Marca Stella Large Portrait Type 2 Brown Ink Pele PSA 3
Here is another very rare issue that many collectors are not really aware of. This is a 1962 Marca Stella Large Portrait Type 2 Brown Ink Pele in PSA 3. Only 3 copies of this card grade higher. PSA population reports must be taken with a grain or salt regardng Marca Stella. PSA did not really know the different styles and types of Marca Stella cards so there are copies out there that are graded incorrectly (some I’ve seen currrently for sale online). I worked with the PSA spec department and as of October 2020, at the least the 1962 Marca Stella Large Portrait specs are now correct. There 3 styles of Marca Stella. Small portrait, Large Portrait, and the full size that has the Brasil badge on the front. See my pictures, I show all 3 types side by side for comparison. For the Large portrait Pele cards, there are 3 different types. Type 1 has an accept mark above the E in Pele’s name on the front and has a single line of text in blue on the back. Type 2 has no accept mark in Pele’s name and has multi-line text on back. There are 2 variations of Typ3, one with blue ink lettering on the back and with brown ink on the back. Type 3 has accept mark in Pele’s name on front, white back, and multi-line text in blue on back. Also, Pele’s last name on back is mis-spelled as “Nascimiento”. The Type 2 Brown ink is the most common Type but by most common I man only a handful of copies are known. The Type 1, Type 3 and Type 2 Blue ink are very rare with only 1-2 copies known. Now you know all the types/variations for the Large Portrait Pele cards, but that does not let you appreciate how hard it was to find them. It took me between 10-15 years to acquire all the the types/variations. This one is a very nice copy with great centering and beautiful presentation. I think it’s obvious, but I always get questions so I’ll say it clearly. Although I show 3 Pele cards side by side in some pictures for comparison purposes only. This listing is ONLY FOR THE 1 Large Portrait Pele card. Contact me if you have any questions. The above description should say “There are 2 variations of Type 2″ not type 3.
