Early Emma Bridgewater QUAIL & STRAWBERRY Spongeware Large Soup Tureen VERY RARE
Rare Early Emma Bridgewater Spongeware Large Soup Tureen. Displayed only, never used! Read full description for condition, very minor flaws. This soup tureen stands approximately 9 1/2 tall to the top lid finial, bowl itself is nearly 6 tall to the top rim without the lid, bowl measures approx. 9 across the top rim, and measures 11 1/2 across the handles. At the outer diameter. Hand-painted/hand-sponged with a pattern of brown quails and dark raspberry pink strawberries with green leaves over a creamy earthenware background. Pattern repeats in rows all around tureen and lid, and row of strawberries lines the inner rim of the bowl and bottom foot. Lid has a spoon slot. This amazing piece is in unused condition, it has only ever been displayed. Although it is in nearly new condition, there are a couple of extremely minor issues. There is a very tiny glaze chip on one handle with a couple of small hairline cracks in the glaze stemming from it (see last photo). There are also a few scratches in the glaze from years of display and storage. None of these are major issues and do not take away from the display quality of this piece. Original store price tag attached at the bottom. Of course there are also a few misplaced paint marks typical on these hand painted pieces, but nothing major. There is a small slightly higher spot of pottery on the inside of the bowl (second to last photo). Both of these issues occurred during manufacturing and barely noticeable at all. A wonderful piece and perfect addition to your collection! PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING. Very Nice Rare Large German Quail Steinadler Hunter Deer Head Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an outstanding find of a very rare, handcarved, working, hunter style, quail cuckoo clock that was created in the Black Forest of Schonach, “Germany” about 75 years ago by “Steinadler, ” one of the finer clockmakers in this historic region! The clock is simply astonishing and one of the finest Ive ever seen. Frankly, were it not for the cause listed below, this exquisite clock would remain in our home; no doubt about it. The clock is carved of cured and aged Linden wood that is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The case is adorned with nine, large, hand carved wooden oak leaves on the front that are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy. Another oak leaf is found on the wooden pendulum and there is a large carved wooden game bag at the base of the case, below the dial and all are finished in a blended, deep walnut finish; very nice! There is a large, nicely carved wooden rabbit to the right of the dial and an equally impressive carved wooden game bird affixed to the left side. The dial has a black backdrop and features large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching hands to point out the time. There is a wooden, round mountain horn encircling the dial complete with a wooden mouthpiece and wood horn end. The top is a separate carving and features a large wooden deer head complete with antlers and two wooden shotguns mounted under it in a criss-cross manner. The clock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes to allow access to the weight driven mechanical movement inside the case bearing the Steinadler name and “Germany” too. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, quail call, and cuckoo activity. All three of the wooden bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look good as well; sound good too! This clock makes extraordinary sounds. At the quarter hour mark, the small wooden door above the dial on the right opens and a colorful red bird with flapping wings stands in the doorway. He gives off three quail sounds in tandem before retreating back inside the case; six sounds at the half hour; nine at the three-quarter hour, and twelve full quail sounds at the top of each hour. At the top of the hour and once the quail bird is safely back inside the case, the door to the left above the dial opens and a colorful blue bird with flapping wings stands in the doorway. The bird correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before retreating to the safe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! Each of the birds close the doors after making their rounds; fascinating and unlike anything Ive ever seen in a cuckoo clock! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, chimes correctly, cuckoos as it should, and makes a stunning quail round. It is an old clock and we don’t know the service history though it appears the movement has had regular? Maintenance over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always recommend to our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a carved wooden oak leaf pendulum, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and can’t find any damage or missing pieces. It’s an impressive old clock and absolutely breathtaking on display. It’s a large clock too measuring about 21″ high (not counting the weights or pendulum), 11 ½ deep, and about 14 1/2″ across the top. This clock is in a league all its own. Its one of the most stunning clocks you could ever find and a magnificent, nostalgic look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship. It will certainly turn a few heads when displayed in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very rare, beautifully carved cuckoo clock with a real history behind it. If you like this item and I’m sure you do, then I know you’ll love the other items. Check back frequently since we’re listing a lot of antique/vintage items as time allows! We’d be glad to send more pictures if available; just ask! My wife and I have been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectors items over the years.
