This bowl measures 12 7/8″ in diameter by 6″ in height this is a very large bowl This has a pattern with raised panels above and below the dark blue band on the side of the bowl. The base of the bowl is impressed with the number 12 representing the size in this pattern. The bowl is in excellent condition with no crazing or spider veining anywhere. The clay in this bowl is a mix of yellow ware and stone ware, these are more durable than pure yellow ware clay bowls. Very Rare 1850 Large Bennington Covered Storage Jar Rockingham Glaze Yellow Ware
Here we have a very rare and beautiful early Bennington storage jar. This can still be used as its intended purpose as a kitchen storage jar. The jar is decorated with applied spatter Rockingham glaze with the yellow ware clay showing through. The lid has an attractive applied strap handle with applied lug handles on the side of the jar. Measuring 7 ¼” in height to the rim, 9 ¾” to the top of the handle and 9 wide across the rim. A similar large storage jar is shown in. “Bennington Pottery and Porcelain” by Richard Carter Barret in Plate 128. The jar is in excellent condition with only a chip on the underside of one of the handles with no other damage or repairs. Presentation loving cups were made to celebrate special events. This loving cup celebrates the marriage of Joseph and Ann Simpson of Litchfield, England with their names. Impressed and infilled with blue glaze. The top of the cup is decorated with repeating. Sprigged scenes of hunters with their dogs and pairs of peacocks fill the rest of the side of the cup. The mug has two scroll handles with distinctive handle terminals. The cup is supported with a wide flared foot that is recessed on the underside. Loving cups are typically large, this one measures 6″ in height to the rim and 10 ½” in width from handle to handle. This is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. Appears in any of the books on collecting yellow ware. Any advanced collector would be pleased to own this spectacular and one of a kind piece of early yellow ware pottery. Here we have a very rare milk pan. Milk pans always have the same distinctive form consisting of a prominent rolled rim, sloped sides and a flat bottom. Measuring 12 ¾” in diameter by 4 ½” in height the milk pan is in near mint condition with glaze wear on the bottom of the pad feet. The color of this milk pan is a pleasing warm yellow. This is a fabulous pig bank has the best mocha glaze I’ve ever seen on a bank. In order to produce this decoration, the potter first held the pig upside down and dipped in cream color glaze the dipped it a second time in a multi-color glaze to get this mocha effect. The bank is nicely molded and is in near mint condition with only the slightest of glaze wear to the edge of the snout that doesn’t detract. Here we have an attractive tea bowl dating to the early to mid-1800s. During the 1700s and early 1800s tea was an expensive commodity and after tea was brewed, the tea leaves would be saved in tea bowls until the next use. The form is always consistent, they always have flared sides and a molded raised foot. This tea bowl is decorated with a combination of. 9 black and white bands that are excellently applied with no runs or smears. The tea bowl is nicely formed with a rolled foot and recessed base. This is a large tea bowl measuring 7 ¾” wide by 4″. High and is as nice a tea bowl as you’ll ever find. When found, tea bowls are often chipped, cracked or stained from use. This tea bowl is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs and rings like a bell when you tap the rim. Here we have a stunning large cable decorated mug. Decorated with a large bold cabling on a wide blue band that covers the side of the mug, this dates to circa 1825. The cup is decorated with 4 finely formed looped cable decorations. The mug is further decorated with an applied foliate terminal handle. There is a small glaze rub on the side of the handle and a tine rub on the top of the rim. The mug measures 3 7/8″ in height and 4 ½”width across the rim. The underside of the mug is impressed LL&T / MONT. This was the mark for the Montereau Potteries established in 1748 in Montereau, France and lead by a number of English potters. This is in original mint condition and survives with no damage or repairs, having been cherished and cared for, for nearly 200 years. Here we have an exceptional raised relief mug dating to the mid-1800s. The mug is elaborately modeled with finely detailed and molded sprigged groups of children applied on top of a wide robin’s egg blue glazed band. Below the rim the mug is embellished with a continuous grape laden vine applied over a black glazed band. The mug also has an attractive applied reeded strap handle. Measuring 3 ¾” in height by 3 ¾” in width across the rim. The mug rings like a bell when you tap the rim. The mug has a fine hairline that extends part way down the side from the rim. This looks worse under bright photographic lights than it does in person. There is also damage to the back edge of the handle. Here we have a very rare 1800s banded bowl. The bowl is elegant in the simplicity of the decoration, a prominent wide white band with two narrow black bands below it. This is one of several graduated bowls produced with this decoration. The bowl is finely molded with a prominent rounded rim and base. These features and the banding are unique to bowls produced by J. In their day, Jeffords was the Tiffany of yellow ware pottery production, no other American potter approached the quality of what Jeffords was able to produce. This would have been an early bowl produced by Jeffords. Measuring 11 ½ in diameter by 5 ½ in height, the bowl is in near mint condition with only hairlines in the bottom that dont detract and one on the side. There are three marks on the underside of the base from the firing process, these are not damage. Jeffords is known for producing large high quality bowls, in all my years of collecting I have never seen another bowl of this size potted by Jeffords. These larger Jeffords bowls are very impressive and collectable. Any advanced collector would be pleased to add this bowl to their yellow ware collection.
