Very beautiful polychrome majolica Vietri sul Mare Italy plate with a religious scene in relief (rather difficult to picture). 40cm / 15.7inch. Very good original condition: no cracks or restorations. See pictures for an overall impression. Grande piatto in ceramica policroma, ceramiche di Vietri sul Mare, Italia Studeman, Dolker, Gambone etc. The last picture with today’s newspaper shows that the plate is still in my posession. The district was originally the capital district of Sawankhalok province, which in 1932 was merged with Sukhothai province. The new province was at first named Sawankhalok, but in 1939 was renamed to Sukhothai and its capital district moved to Sukhothai district. In 1917, the district was renamed from Mueang to Wang Mai Khon. 1938 it was named Mueang Sawankhalok , which was changed to only Sawankhalok in 1939 following the province rename.
