For sale today we have this fine and rare Arts and Crafts copper box by John Pearson of the. Guild of Handicrafts and the Newlyn School. A superb example in an unusually large size. The casket features a repousse design of a large stylised bird of prey with his head facing to one side within a. Scrolling foliate border, that, in turn sits within a larger outer border. The bird is utterly charming. And reminds me of William de Morgan’s owl. The repousse work is typically John Pearson with high and crisp peaks. Measures 14 ” long x 10 ” wide x 4 1/2 tall. Marked JP for Pearson on the back corner. In super condition, with great definition to the design. When the box came to me it the copper wasn’t in a good state at all, I therefore had it professionally cleaned and it now looks amazing. If your preference is for a more patinated finish then the box can be left to age, and as with all things copper, the more you handle it the quicker it will mellow! Any questions please ask?
