VERY RARE, VERY LARGE 16 1/4 Diameter Antique 18th Century Colonial New England PEWTER BOWL. Scans show it all….. Very rare, very early, VERY LARGE antique colonial pewter bowl. PARTICULARLY deep area for food, much deeper than a plate, and clearly made as a bowl. Measures 16 1/4″ in diameter and about 2 1/4″ deep. Could have served a variety of purposes, but much, much scarcer than a typical trencher. Extremely rare to find today compared to plates and other pieces. N be used as a functional item or as very nice AND VERY RARE antique or colonial period decorative item with a collection or on a mantle, in a dining room or kitchen, or on the wall, etc. Definitely an 18th century piece, probably c. 1760-70, and certainly REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD. In nice condition overall with REALLY NICE AGED PATINA. Hows its age and use particularly nicely, and has a nice antique appearance. Originally came out of a local New England pewter collection and has been in my personal collection for many years. A great, special addition to any colonial pewter collection, for display, OR EVEN FOR USE. Would be a great, very unusual, and very timely platter to have to serve a Thanksgiving turkey on!! LARGE, UNUSUAL REVOLUTIONARY WAR POWDER HORN, Unusually Large, 15 Long. Particularly large Revolutionary War POWDER HORN, used to store powder and be used by individual riflemen. This one is a very unusual style, large size horn. VERY LONG, MEASURING 13″ from tip to tip and 15″ along the curve. Butt end cover is extremely unusual, and a piece of horn has been flattened and shaped to do this. Also has hole in the top as shown to put the cord, typical of the Revolutionary War period. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A HORN WITH THE BUTT PLATE MADE OUT OF HORN, AND REALLY NICELY MADE. Has nice tiny iron nail to hold the butt plug in, both from the end and on the side. Also has fancy pouring end with flattened sides. Has carved, threaded cap at the end. Lso made to have a second, threaded end cover/plug. Missing as they often are, but another could be made if desired. This has all the attributes, design, style, patina, and look of a Revolutionary War period horn. Has really nice color and horn characteristics. Clearly, it was a military used early horn, Has a great look to it, a great size, and an unusual, special look, for addition to a collection or to hang with a musket over a fireplace. VERY nice curve and nice aged patina to it. In very good condition overall. Very nice, unusual item and one of the nicer ones you will find. From a Massachusetts estate sale.
