EXTREMELY RARE LARGE 5′ x 8′ AKSTAFA STAR MEDALLIONS KUBA SHIRVAN CAUCASIAN CARPET With animal motifs galore! This one measures in at : 4′ 10″ x 7′ 10″. A very large carpet for an antique Caucasian rug. Probably Shirvan with heavy influence in design from the Akstafa. Design with star medallions without peacocks. This is a very unusual design and color combination. A very flexible wool on wool rug with a fine weave. Was never a thick rug. Many of this type have not survived in good condition. The selvage is replaced, spots of foundation showing and there is brown oxidation throughout. Low, but even pile with a partial, finely woven killim ending at both ends.
