This is a beautiful, rare, lightly used, animated wooden wall clock that was created in “Japan” about 70 years ago by the “Meiko Clock Company” as a special order or promotion for Wesco International. The phrase, “Be Wesco Wise” is found just above center in small capitol letters on this gorgeous clock! The case is made entirely of wood. It is hand carved and made to look like a large owl with a very nice blended walnut and mahogany finish! The dial is metal and has a black backdrop featuring large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching metal hands to point out the time. The hands are the old style that are pinned to the escapement, not held on by a nut. The eyes are most extraordinary and they move back and forth as time ticks away; fascinating! The back is wood too and has a built in metal hanger. The back is quite secure yet slides open easily to allow access to the mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case and for placing the pendulum. The movement bears the Meiko Clock Company name. The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and lasts for about two days on a single wind. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and find no damage or missing parts and only very light signs of use. It measures about 10 1/2″ at its highest point (not counting the weight or pendulum), about 2 1/2″ at its deepest point, and about 5 3/4 at its widest point. The clock comes complete as shown with a set of attached metal chains, a wire pendulum and bob, and one rather heavy pinecone shaped metal weight. This clock is certain to capture the imagination of any guests in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very rare, hand carved, animated timepiece that is one of the most captivating I have seen.
