Art Deco Ronson Clock (Large Face) Touch Tip Lighter – Figure 190 – Very Rare. Figure 190 in the Ronson book by Urban Cummings, in very good working condition. This version is much rarer than figure 182 (TT and Watch Combination). Ironically, they both use the same dollar watch movement made by New Haven. The only difference is the size of the dials and dial openings. The clock (watch) movement is running, but ran about 5 minutes fast over 24 hours. These watch movements are of the lowest quality (zero jewels) and probably didn’t keep great time when they came out of the factory. Tortoise enameling with chrome. Please review the pics closely, as they show the condition. Overall a very nice example of this rare and desirable Ronson Touch Tip lighter. However, once the package is in the Post Office’s possession, I no longer have any control over how fast it gets to you. I had a package that took 19 days to get to me that was mailed from Massachusetts (I’m in Michigan). So please be patient. They all get there eventually. Feel free to make an offer. Please contact me with any issues and I will do my best to resolve quickly. Very Nice Rare Large German Black Forest Hunter Deer 8 Day Carved Cuckoo Clock
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an excellent find of a very nice, beautifully and deeply carved, 8 day, large hunter mechanical cuckoo clock that was created about 40 years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, West Germany. It is very seldom that you find a cuckoo clock that is finished in extra Dark Walnut as this one is and the animals and trim are finished in a stunning contrast in a darker medium Walnut; very nice! The clock is beautifully hand carved, of the highest quality, and ornately detailed! It is equally impressive in size too measuring about 19″ high (from the tip of the antlers to the bottom of the game bag and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 9 1/2″ at its deepest point, and about 12 1/2 at its widest point. The clock looks to be carved from cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. There is a carved wooden game bird mounted to the right side of the dial and an equally impressive, beautifully carved wooden rabbit mounted to the left side. The clock front is designed to look like an intricate oak tree adorned with eleven, large, nicely carved wooden oak leaves as well as a carved hunting game bag with straps on the very bottom. The dial has a black backdrop and features raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of matching fancy hands to point out the time. T here is a wooden mountain horn surrounding the dial complete with a wooden mouthpiece and wooden horn end. The top is a separate carving that is secured with the old hook and eye system. The carvings featured are that of a large wooden deer head with antlers along with two hand carved wooden shotguns criss-crossed underneath. I don’t think the antlers are made of wood but they sure look real; wow! The back is wood too and secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the all metal, mechanical, weight driven movement created by “Regula, ” is marked “Made in Germany” as well. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled every 8 days or as often as you wish to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The tall bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case and then retreats back inside and closes the door. The bird reappears at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the case and closing the door behind him; absolutely fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it was designed to do. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we don’t know the service history though the movement does show signs of past maintenance. Nonetheless, we always advise our clock customers to service their vintage or antique clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a classic clock like this one and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a hand carved wooden oak leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. Ive looked the clock over fairly well and cant find any damage, repairs, or missing pieces. It shows average or less signs of use and maybe just a small nick here and there. I did find some slight discoloration on part of the dial but it’s not detracting… It is a remarkable clock and just gorgeous on display! This clock is a wonderful look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship and is certain to capture the imagination of anyone seeing or hearing it in your home, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent, very unique, mechanical, 8 day Black Forest timepiece with a solid history behind it. If you like this item and I’m sure you do, then I know you’ll love the other items. Check back frequently since we’re listing a lot of antique/vintage items as time allows! Very Rare Large Gothic Revival Charles Frodsham Clock Maker To Queen Victoria
A very good looking and well made clock by one of the greatest clock makers in Englands history. The case has been cleaned waxed and polished, the keys work the locks however the lock to the glass case is temperamental and I would advise leaving it alone. Height:- 51.2cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Charles Frodsham (15 April 1810 11 January 1871) was a distinguished English horologist, establishing the firm of Charles Frodsham & Co, which remains in existence as the longest continuously trading firm of chronometer manufacturers in the world. In January 2018, the firm launched a new chronometer wristwatch, after sixteen years in development. It is the first watch to use the George Daniels double-impulse escapement. Frodsham was educated at the Bluecoat School, Newgate, London and then apprenticed to his father William James Frodsham FRS, a respected chronometer maker and co-founder of Parkinson & Frodsham. Charles showed early promise with two chronometers submitted to the 1830 Premium Trials at Greenwich, one of which was awarded 2nd prize. Nine further chronometers by Charles were entered to the Premium trials until they ceased in 1836. Soon after marrying Elizabeth Mill (18131879), Frodsham founded his own business at No. [5] He rapidly established himself as a leading London chronometer maker. With the death of another major chronometer maker, John Roger Arnold (son of the eminent John Arnold), Charles acquired the Arnold business in 1843, moving his family and business address to 84 Strand, London. [6] Trading as Arnold & Frodsham, Chronometer Makers continued till 1858. Charles Frodsham was a prolific and highly regarded horological writer, publishing numerous articles on the discipline. He corresponded with George Biddell Airy, Astronomer Royal, over many years, much of which correspondence is preserved at Cambridge University Library, covering topics such as middle temperature error, quick trains as advocated by Thomas Earnshaw, Greenwich Mean Time and Airys remontoire. In 1871, Frodsham published The History of the Marine Chronometer, the first English language treatment of the subject. Exhibitions, awards & medals. Frodsham was awarded the Telford Gold Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers for his 1847 lecture on the laws of isochronism. At the Great Exhibition in 1851, he was awarded a first-class medal for his timekeepers. The firm won fourteen further medals and honours at the major international exhibitions over the rest of the nineteenth century. At the 1862 International Exhibition, Frodsham not only exhibited but was also one of the jurors, writing the detailed horological section report. Frodsham was a founding member, and later Vice President, of the British Horological Institute, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, in which he served as Master in 1855 and 1862. Frodsham died of liver disease in 1871, and was buried at Highgate Cemetery, London. His obituary stated that during a long and honourable career, he distinguished himself by his devotion to the science of horology, which he greatly advanced, and his clever works upon the subject are regarded as authoritative by members of the trade. Charles son Harrison Mill Frodsham (18491922) took over the firm, following in his fathers footsteps by publishing his own theoretical horological material, including an important series of articles entitled Some materials for a Resume of Remontoires. The firm continued to supply marine chronometers to the Greenwich trials, achieving significant success. In the 2nd half of the nineteenth century, the firm provided sidereal regulators for new observatories being established worldwide, notably in Australia at Sydney and Melbourne; in Italy at Padua, Palermo and Naples; and in the USA at Harvard and Lick. Charles Frodsham tourbillon no. 09182, now at Belmont which holds the record for the highest marks for an English watch gained at the Kew Observatory. Sidereal regulator now on display at the Norman Lockyer Observatory, originally installed at the Solar Physics Observatory in South Kensington. In addition to the production of standard high-grade pocket watches and domestic clocks, the firm specialised in complicated timepieces, including Tourbillon and Karrusel watches, many of which were submitted for observatory testing, frequently scoring highly. Charles Frodsham tourbillon No. 09182 (now in the Lord Harris collection at Belmont) with marks of 93.9, holds the record for the highest score ever achieved by an English watch tested at the Kew Observatory. Such watches were inscribed with the letters AD. This cryptogram for the year Anno Domini 1850 is formed by the numerical sequence of the letters in Frodsham, with the addition of Z for zero, and was used from that date on by the firm to indicate first quality. We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally large number of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is an outstanding find of an unusual, deeply hand carved, very large, absolutely beautiful 8 day Hunters cuckoo clock that was created in the Black Forest about 70 years ago in “Germany” by “Emil Schmeckenbecher, ” one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world! The clock is made from cured and aged Linden wood which has been the preferred wood of carvers in the Black Forest since the 1870’s. The case front is adorned with six, large, heavily carved oak leaves and another, even fancier oak leaf is found on the pendulum. The carvings are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy. There is a carved, wooden game bird mounted to the right of the dial and an equally impressive carved wooden rabbit to the left side. The case has a carved wooden game bag at the very bottom in front complete with straps and an incredible top piece consisting of a large wooden deer head complete with wooden antlers and a wooden shotgun mounted underneath; breathtaking! The wooden dial has a work Alpen Mountain Horn circling it complete with a wooden mouthpiece and wood horn end. The wood dial itself has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching hands to point out the time. The clock has a wood back and latches securely. It easily removes to allow access to the early design, weight driven mechanical movement inside the case that is produced by “Regula” and bears the Schmeckenbecher name. An weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled every 8 days or as often as you wish to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. The tall wooden bellow or whistle tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding metal chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock; fascinating! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should. Keep in mind this is an old clock so some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. The clock does appear to have been maintained over the years. Nonetheless, we always recommend to our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, an unusual, carved oak leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and can’t find any missing parts, repairs, or damage. It shows only average or less wear and is absolutely gorgeous on display! It is an impressive old clock and one of the largest I’ve seen in recent years measuring about 23 1/2″ high (from the tip of the antlers to the bottom of the game bag and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 10″ at its deepest point, and about 14 1/2 across the top. This clock is just stunning and a great nostalgic look back at the greatness of Black Forest workmanship. It is very likely to turn heads when displayed in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, beautifully carved, very rare 8 day cuckoo clock with a real legacy behind it. We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally large number of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our. This is a beautiful, rare, animated wooden wall clock that was created in “Japan” about 70 years ago by the “Cherry” Clock Company. It is hand carved and made to look like a large owl with a very nice blended walnut and mahogany finish! The dial is metal and has a black backdrop featuring large, easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching metal hands to point out the time. The hands are the old style that are pinned to the escapement, not held on by a nut. The eyes are most extraordinary and they move back and forth as time ticks away; fascinating! The back is wood too and has a built in metal hanger. The back is quite secure with its own screw yet slides open easily to allow access to the mechanical, weight driven movement inside the case and for placing the pendulum. The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and lasts for about two days on a single wind. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and find no damage or missing parts. It does show some wear and mostly on the dial. I did find a small hole in one of the eyes but it’s not at all distracting; I doubt if anything could! The clock measures about 10 1/2″ at its highest point (not counting the weight or pendulum), about 2 1/2″ or so at its deepest point, and about 6 at its widest point. The clock comes complete as shown with a set of attached metal chains, a wire pendulum and round wooden bob, and one heavy pinecone shaped metal weight. This clock is certain to capture the imagination of any guests in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very rare, hand carved, animated timepiece that is one of the most captivating I have seen.
