Cabinet Set Cup & Saucer Set. Hand Decorated over transfer. This is one of the most desired patterns Aynsley produced – all surfaces covered with large dark pink Cabbage Roses – 13 in total. ATHENS shape, with a very large bowl, extended handle and footed cup base. Dates from the 1950s. Note the very heavy gilding to the handle, base and the trims. Likely a cabinet or presentation set as it appears to have been little used. The saucer is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines and “pings” perfectly and has no crazing; the cup does not “ping” perfectly true and has a very very tight (and virtually invisible) 3/8 crazing line/hairline (see magnified photo) which I honestly only found while examining using a loupe under strong light – it is not visible from the exterior side and I had great difficulty in photographing it ; the cup also has fine pottery crazing lines again found only under magnification under strong light. No wear to the transfer or to gold gilding. A few underglaze darkened bits and smudges on underside of saucer. Cup measures 2 1/4″ tall at sides (2 7/8″ tall to top of handle) and entire cup is 5″ across including handle; saucer is 5 7/8″ across. Marked as shown in photo with older Aynsley crown mark in dark green with pattern number C1026 in dark fuschia red. Please ignore all white spots on all photos caused by camera flash. This lovely set would make a beautiful addition to your collection or a perfect gift. I do try and describe my items accurately.
