Add a touch of elegance to your home decor with this. Exceedingly large and stunning handmade glass ashtray/bowl from the island of Murano Italy. This vintage and extremely rare item, due to the size and weight of over 5 pounds, also quite possible, a circa 1960 piece, features beautiful colors of amber, to honey, then to clear glass, hand created in the Sommerso technique faceted design, that would without any doubt, add a unique touch of artistry to any room. Once again, the two separate items listed are both an exceptional weight of over 5 pounds. This bowl is perfect for decorative use or as a statement piece for your table setting. The craftsmanship and production style of this art glass piece make it an extremely rare find, sure to impress any collector or lover of fine glassware. In around 22 years as a Murano glass collector, the two exceptionally large Sommerso glass items that I have listed, are the only two that I had ever come across. I do believe that these items were extremely possible to have been created by Glass Master Archimedes Seguso, because of the exceedingly large size for this Sommerso ashtray. The reason for this is the following. A dear and sadly still greatly missed friend and Glass Master, Franco Giancarlo. Toffolo who also created many beautiful and stunning items for my UK business partnership “Carrera & Bronte” before I emigrated to the USA in 2010….. Franco assisted me on numerous occasions in uncovering the Glass Master whom had created the many vintage, also incredible glass sculptures that passed through the business over the years that we were trading. Franco left the island of Murano in the 1960’s together with his dear and lovely wife Carla, to make his home and bring his incredible and gifted Glass Master skills, to the UK. Franco enlightened me to the fact that Glass Master Archimedes Seguso also created some exceptionally large glass masterpieces, that I have been fortunate enough to have come across a few over the years, that make a definite statement by their outstanding size, compared to other Glass Master creations. Therefore, It is with this fact…… That I do believe that both of the oversize ashtrays/bowls I have listed, are extremely possible to be the work of Archimedes Seguso. Condition: Rear top: One small approximately 1/4 long, light surface chip (photos) that I do believe, could be removed by an accomplished glass repair. On the rear top if desired.. Also, an extremely thin and light wavy surface scratch on one side (photo) Normal wear scratch marks to the base for a glass item approximately around 64 years old (photo). There are a couple of images together with a normal size Murano faceted ash tray/bowl, to hopefully give you more of an idea regarding the dimensions. I’ve also included a photo of our store in the coastal town of Ramsgate, Kent, UK…… From way back then…. If any further photos needed or information, please just get in touch..
