A Very Rare Large Galle Vase. A classical greek amphora shape. A layer of white glass intercalaire between internal clear glass and amber and burnt orange outer layers. Also depicting chrysanthemum flowers and leaves. Twin applied mottled clear glass handles. Incribed on the base. Cristallerie De Galle Nancy depose. Around a depiction of a chrysanthemum. On some of the earliest glass vases Galle would include a picture of the main decorative theme on the underside of the foot. This is one of just a few examples that I have seen during my entire career outside of the Musee des beax arts in Nancy. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.

Gem size albums were often used by children for friends or school mates, etc. Sort of a late 19th century version of a modern school yearbook. This is a nice standard large size gem size tintype album, containing. 6 pages, with 8 standard gem size tintype photos per page…… For a total capacity of 48 gems. There are only 2 empty spaces in this one, so VIRTUALLY TOTALLY (96%) FULL!! Very rare to find any full albums, especially gem size! It is nice for your collection of albums as is, or can be used to put in your own period gem size tintype photos!! Very hard to find in any condition. This one has an excellent binding, which is usually what is the weakest. Measures about 3 3/4″ x 3″. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!
